In 1959, a small store was opened by Hal Silverstein in downtown San Mateo. The initial idea was to provide professional beauty products to the general public such as hair color, permanents, shampoos, and conditioners. In 1975, Lori joined the family business and together they opened their second location in Bayhill Shopping center, where it still stands today after five remodels. In 1982, Lori had the chance to open her first dream store on University Ave, in Palo Alto. That was the day the first real beauty boutique type store was born in the Bay Area. That brought class and sophistication to the traditional “beauty supply store”.  This was the first of many Peninsula Beauty stores transformed into a beauty store boutique/salon fit for a 5^th Avenue storefront in Manhattan.

Over these past years, the vision of specialty beauty boutique has grown and many original locations outgrew their space, so Ms. Silverstein relocated them to larger locations. This paved the way for more growth for Peninsula Beauty in the niche beauty boutique market, and has helped to expand one small store into twelve and growing today. Lori has done this successfully while keeping her feet on the ground and staying very close to her neighbors and friends in the bay area. The company has warranted attention for its contributions to the community and for its take on what a beauty store/salon boutique should really be all about.

After 50+ years in the Bay Area, Peninsula Beauty is now thrilled to have beauty stores in the heart of San Francisco, now rounding out a 12-store beauty chain that has more items, and more of a “boutique” feel than ever before.

A 4^th generation San Franciscan, whose family were merchants on Market Street in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, Lori Silverstein had the opportunity to grow the family business through escalating all aspects of the company, from customer service to product selection, over these many years.  Peninsula Beauty now carries over 5000 products and 200 of your favorite beauty brands. “I’m so excited to finally have stores in the city I love so much, following in my family’s footsteps.  We are excited to get involved in the San Francisco community and share with our new customers what makes us uniquely different,” says Silverstein.

To celebrate this expansion in San Francisco, Peninsula Beauty will be having two Grand Opening events throughout the day on Nov. 29, 2012.

There will be ribbon cutting ceremonies at both Peninsula Beauty San Francisco locations. The celebration starts with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the front doors of Peninsula Beauty at Four Embarcadero Center at 10 a.m.; many VIP’s are scheduled to attend and events will go until 6 pm.

The Laurel Village Peninsula Beauty will follow suit with their ribbon cutting ceremony at 3 pm that day, with surrounding events from 10 am to 6 pm as well.

Both stores’ grand opening events include a meet-n-greet with “Stylist to the Stars”, Mitch Stone, who will be launching his exclusive new line of styling products, Mitch Stone Essentials, while answering your hair questions. You will be able meet him at the Embarcardero from 10 am to 2 pm, and at Laurel Village from 3 pm to 6 pm. There will also be representatives from top men’s and women’s hair, nail, skin and cosmetic brands on hand to answer beauty questions, offer tips, while doing special giveaways or handing out samples.

Peninsula Beauty in San Francisco will also be celebrating throughout the day by handing out goody bags (while supplies last). Also, be sure to enter to win one of the many fabulous gift baskets we will be giving away.
